Glow & Go Full Nail Kit for applying press-on nails

How to Apply Press-On Nails So They Last 2–4 Weeks (The Air-Bubble Rule)

Most press-on failures come from one thing: air under the tip. Here is the full application method, finger by finger, with the mistakes that make nails pop off.

Glow & Go Full Nail Kit for applying press-on nails

Press-on nails that pop off after a day are almost never the nails' fault. In our support inbox the story is always the same: the set looked perfect, then one corner lifted in the shower, then a whole nail came off at the gym. Nine times out of ten the cause is a pocket of air under the tip that stopped the gel from curing properly. This guide walks through the Glow & Go method step by step and explains the three rules that make the difference between two days and two to four weeks.

The three rules

  1. No air bubbles under the tip. Air trapped between the tip and your nail means uncured gel and a weak spot. Press from the cuticle toward the free edge, look at the tip from above before you cure and hold it under the lamp for the first 30 seconds.
  2. One side must be rough. Gel needs something to grip. File the inside of each tip until it is matte, not smooth. On healthy nails you can lightly buff the natural nail instead; on weak or damaged nails, don't touch the nail and use the base coat.
  3. One finger at a time. Never apply all ten tips and then put the whole hand under the lamp. Apply, press, hold, cure, next finger.

What you need

Alcohol pads, a cuticle pusher, a nail file, Peel-Off Base Coat, Solid Tip Gel, a UV/LED lamp of at least 48W and your press-on set. All of it is in the Full Nail Kit.

Step by step

  1. Clean. Wipe each nail with an alcohol pad to remove oil. Skip hand cream for 30 minutes before you start.
  2. Cuticles. Push them back gently with the cuticle pusher. Cutting is optional and only if you have the tool and the experience.
  3. Pick your tips. Choose the closest size for each finger and lay them out in order. Slightly small beats slightly large; file the sides to fit.
  4. Rough up the inside. File the inside of every tip until the surface is matte. Wipe the tips with an alcohol pad afterwards.
  5. Base coat. One very thin layer on the clean, dry nail. Cure 20 seconds. This is the protection layer that keeps the gel off your natural nail.
  6. Gel. A pea-sized drop of Solid Tip Gel inside the tip. Not more. Too much gel means squeeze-out and a thick, lumpy edge.
  7. Press on. Place the tip at the cuticle and press down toward the free edge so the gel spreads across the whole nail bed. Check from above: no bubbles, no gaps.
  8. Wipe. Any gel that came out onto the skin, wipe it off with an alcohol pad before curing. Cured gel on skin leaves shiny marks and can irritate.
  9. Hold and cure. Finger under the lamp. Hold the tip with light pressure for at least 30 seconds so nothing shifts, then let go and cure 2 minutes total for that finger. With a 60-second timer, run it twice.
  10. Next finger. Repeat. When all ten are done, no water for 1 hour.

Why nails fall off

  • Air bubbles. The number one cause. Press from the cuticle out, look before you cure, hold for 30 seconds.
  • Greasy nail. Lotion, natural oil, even the residue from touching your face. Alcohol pad, every nail.
  • Smooth tip. If neither surface is rough, the gel has nothing to grip. It will hold, but not for weeks.
  • Weak lamp. Old or low-wattage lamps don't cure Solid Tip Gel. Use the kit lamp or any 48W+ UV/LED lamp.
  • Whole hand under the lamp. Tips shift before they cure. One finger at a time.

Dark, black and chrome tips

UV light has to pass through the tip to cure the gel. Light, sheer and most colored tips are fine. Black never cures, chrome reflects the light, and very dark opaque colors depend on how thick the tip is. For those designs use Jelly Tabs (warm them with a hair dryer first) or a gentle nail glue, always over the base coat so glue never touches your natural nail.

Removal, when the time comes

A properly applied set holds hard, so don't rip it. Apply Nail Gel Remover around the edge, wait, and lift gently. If it won't move, slide the nozzle under the tip, add a little more, wait again. The base coat film peels off with the tip and your natural nail stays untouched.
